Food Tech – MeatLoaf

Today for tech, our group made Meatloaf, we came in, washed our hands and put our aprons on, Ms Hamer told us to get the ingredients out so we could get ready to cook, we had a lot to do so then we had to get to work, we cut the onions and carrots to small little pieces we added the egg and the mince and mixed everything with bread crumbs also.

We also cut potatoes and put it in a sauce pan with 1/3 of water, we mashed the potatoes once it was done with the sauce pan, we added everything on the pan and some spices too, we kept on mixing so then the mince would turn brown.

We got a foil box and put everything in it, we put it in the oven and left it there for 20 minutes, we took it out after and then we said our prayers and ate it. It tasted amazing!

Cooking Tech – Truffles

Today at tech, our cooking group made truffles. We came in, washed our hands and put our aprons on. Before we began Ms Hamer gave us instructions to grab our materials. After that our second step was to get the oreos mashed up.

The 3rd step was to put the cocoa and condensed the milk inside using the same bowl we mashed the oreos with and obviously mixing the mixture well.  After all that we washed hands ready to roll the dough into little pieces of sphere balls.

After all that Ms Hamer put all the trays of truffles into the fridge to cool down waiting for the moment to eat it. After a couple hours or minutes we stored it inside our lunch boxes.

With the experience in tech I had fun.

Haiku

Today my class and I learnt about making haikus and what it is, a haiku is a poem with syllables, the first line of syllables is 5, the second one is 7 syllables and the last line is 5 syllables again.

Japan made haikus for making nature poems, that have syllables, like an autumn poem. It was so amazing to read other peoples haikus, Our teacher asked us to make a haiku ourselves, we searched up some poems to have an idea, I made a poem and it’s about the beach, I loved it some much and had so much fun making it.

Food Tech

At tech today, we made curry with rice, when we came in, we washed our hands and put our aprons on, we took 2 cloths, a spray bottle and dish wash soap bottle too.

Ms Hamer gave us instructions about what things we should get out to cook with, we first cut the chicken breasts into bite size pieces, and also sliced and diced the onions, we turned on the stove and put some oil on it, we put our chicken on the pan and let it cook.

Ms Hamer gave us some spinach and some spices to add in the pan so then it would taste better, we washed the dishes and dried it while the curry was busy cooking in the pan, the chicken looked very nice because it looked brown and roasted.

Ms Hamer also put some rice in our lunch boxes while we were finishing up washing the dishes, we turned off the stove and put the curry on top of the rice in our lunch boxes, we said karakia and ate the delicious dish we made.

It tasted amazing!

Maori tech

Today for tech, Matua Harley asked us to open up a slide and do our own pepeha, a pepeha is like an all about me but in maori, while we were doing our pepeha, we listened to some anthems in different cultures, we worked on our pepeha for 30 minutes and we had to present our work to the group. Here is my pepeha.

The Fun Run

Today in the morning we had a fun run up the mountain.

We also had groups that we were in, group 1, group 2, group 3, group 4, group 5 and group 6, I was in group 5, group 5 is for the top girls who are fast, group 6 was also for fast people but for the boys.

Panmure District, Glen Taylor and Glen Innes were the schools that participated in the fun run, group 1 in all the schools had to run first, but we had to wait for the teachers to get to the top before us, so they can tick us off and tell our time.

Group 1 ran when they were told to, then group 2 went, and it went on and on, then it was group 5, we ran our hardest, and went past many people, I was so tired because there was a slope that we had to run through, my friends and I still got through it then we walked, we picked up the pace when we were almost at the end.

We finished the run and everyone was cheering once we got to them, I was so happy to finish the race, we also had sausages and a water bottle, the sausages were very yum.

I did better than the last time I ran up the mountain.

The Dawn Raids

This week in school, my class and I were learning about the Dawn Raids, we read a story about the dawn raids and it was very interesting, it was about Robert Muldoon persuading polynesian to come to New Zealand to work in factories.

When polynesians got convinced, they came over to New Zealand to get jobs, and some polys overstayed in the country but the police and immigration people were turning a blind eye to them.

Some New Zealanders were complaining that there were no jobs left to claim, so Robert Muldoon said that it’s time for the polynesians to go back to their own countries. So then the police and immigration people started looking for some overstayers in their houses. The polynesians didn’t like it when the police and immigration people were raiding their house at dawn at 3:00am in the morning.

So the polynesians got angry and got their sirens, cars and signs out and went to the police’s house and started shouting, and when the lights were on in their house, teenages ran out to their cars and drove off.

There were only citizen teenagers that were protesting because the parents didn’t want to get involved, and get into trouble.

Maori Tech

Today for tech, my group and I were learning about some words in maori, we learnt some animal names in maori like, ruru for owl and maki maki for monkey, we learnt so much that it was time for a game to play, we played last card first, and it was so funny because some people were so confused, then we played a game of rakau and then we had to go in a circle and say what our favourite thing that we had done today.

Matua Harley was so proud of us being sensible, so he said that we could play another round of  rakau, We played 2 rounds and then the bell rang, we ran to put our shoes on then went outside to the bus, we had so much fun.  Maki Maki (Monkey) Ruru (Owl)

Figures of Speech

Today my class and I were learning about figures of speech, we came across a lot of new words like personification, simile, metaphor, hyperbole and many more.

The meaning of personification is when a non-living thing is doing a human quality like for example, the trees were waving to me in a distance , the word simile means when comparing 2 things using the words like or as for example, Billy is fast like a cheetah.

Metaphor means like when comparing 2 things without using the words like or as, and hyperbole means when something is bigger than it really is like for example, I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.

I had so much fun learning about figures of speech and I also made a slide to describe to siblings  using similes, and here it is.
